The cheapest upgrade a desk can get

A monitor on its factory stand sits where the factory decided — usually too low, always in the middle of the desk, and never quite in the right place for the person sitting there. A single monitor arm takes the screen off that pedestal and puts it on an adjustable arm clamped to the desk edge.

Two things change immediately. The desk surface under the screen becomes usable again, which on a standard 1200 mm desk is a meaningful amount of space. And the screen height becomes a per-person setting rather than a per-desk one — the top of the panel at or just below eye level, which is where it should have been all along.

For an office, there is a third reason: standardisation. One arm model across every desk means every screen sits at a consistent height, every cable is routed the same way, and there is one part number to reorder when the floor expands.

  • Screen height set to the person, not the pedestal
  • Desk surface under the screen usable again
  • Tilt, swivel and ±180° portrait rotation
  • Clamp and grommet fixings both supplied
  • Gas-spring, spring-assisted and articulating options
  • One standard spec across an office floor

Fitting

Clamp or grommet — and how to set the height

Clamp fixing

Grips the back edge of the desk. Fast, needs no drilling and moves with the desk — but it needs a clear edge and a desktop within the clamp’s thickness range.

Grommet fixing

The post drops through an existing cable hole and bolts underneath. Tidier, permanent and the usual choice on office fit-outs where the desks already have grommets.

Height: top third at eye level

Sitting upright, looking straight ahead, your eyes should land on the top third of the screen. Set it once for the person, not once for the desk.

Distance: about an arm’s length

Roughly 50–70 cm for a standard 24-inch screen, further for larger panels. The arm’s reach is what lets you get this right on a shallow desk.

Tilt: a few degrees back

A slight backward tilt keeps the whole panel at a consistent viewing distance and cuts reflection from overhead lighting.

Cables through the arm

Route the display and power cable along the arm channel and down the post before you finalise the height — cables that are too short are the usual reason a screen ends up lower than it should be.

Questions

Single monitor arms — FAQs

It depends on the model. In the LUMI range we stock, the spring-assisted LDT63-C012 and articulating LDT55-C012 carry up to 9 kg, and the heavy-duty gas-spring LDT52-C012 carries up to 18 kg. Check your monitor’s weight without its stand — that is the figure the arm has to match.

For a desk someone uses all day, yes. You get the desk space under the screen back, you set the height to the person rather than the factory pedestal, and you can push the screen away when the desk is needed for something else. On shared or hot-desked workstations it also lets each user set their own height in seconds.

Gas spring for heavy screens, ultrawides and sit-stand desks, because it moves at a fingertip and holds anywhere. Spring-assisted for fixed desks in quantity — sturdy and more economical. Articulating where the screen needs to be turned, shared across a desk or pushed well back.

If the back of your monitor has four screw holes in a 75×75 mm or 100×100 mm square, yes. Screens with no VESA pattern — some consumer and all-in-one models — need an adapter plate, which we can supply. Send us the monitor model and we will confirm before you order.

Yes, and it is a good pairing — but use a gas-spring arm. On a desk that changes height, a stiff mechanical spring becomes a daily annoyance, whereas a gas-spring arm lets the screen be re-set with one hand.

Yes. Single-screen desks are the largest share of most office fit-outs. Bulk pricing starts at 10 desks, with a site survey, one standard specification and installation by our own AV team.
