The mechanism worth paying for
Of the three ways a monitor arm can hold a screen up — a gas piston, a mechanical coil spring, or friction joints on a pole — the gas spring is the one people notice. The piston carries the weight of the monitor, so the screen behaves as though it weighs nothing: push it up, pull it down, and it stays where you left it. No knob, no re-tensioning, no two hands.
That matters more than it sounds. A screen that takes effort to move is a screen nobody moves — which defeats the point of buying an arm. On sit-stand desks, hot-desked workstations and any desk where the screen gets repositioned through the day, the gas spring is what makes the adjustment actually get used.
It is also the mechanism that carries weight. Our heavy-duty gas-spring arm is rated to 18 kg on a single screen and takes panels up to 49 inches, including curved and ultrawide — well beyond what a coil spring will hold at a usable stiffness.

Matching a gas-spring arm to your screen
Weight without the stand
The only number that decides the arm. Take the monitor’s weight from its spec sheet excluding the factory pedestal — that is what the arm actually carries.
Curved screens derate
On the LDT52-C012 the rating is 18 kg flat but 14 kg curved. The curve moves the centre of mass further from the VESA plate, so the arm holds less.
VESA 75 or 100 mm
All four models take both standard patterns. Monitors with no VESA holes need an adapter plate, which we can supply.
Clamp or grommet
The LDT52 arms ship with both fixings; the LDT25 arms are clamp-only. On a permanent office fit-out the grommet post is usually the better choice.
Reach
460 mm of extension on the LDT52 arms. On a shallow desk that reach is what lets a large screen sit at a comfortable viewing distance.

Gas spring monitor arms — FAQs
An arm with a sealed gas piston inside it that counterbalances the weight of the monitor. Because the piston carries the load, the screen moves with one finger and stays exactly where you leave it — no knob to loosen, no re-tensioning. It is the smoothest of the three monitor-arm mechanisms and the one that carries the heaviest screens.
Gas spring if the screen is heavy, the desk is sit-stand, or people reposition their screens through the day. Mechanical spring if the desks are fixed and you are buying in quantity: it is sturdy and more economical, with a firmer feel. The rule of thumb is that a screen above about 9 kg, or any desk that moves, wants gas spring.
It depends on the cylinder. In the LUMI range we stock, the LDT25 arms are rated 2–6.5 kg per screen for 17–27-inch monitors, and the heavy-duty LDT52 arms are rated 1–18 kg for a single screen (14 kg if curved) or 1–15 kg per screen on the dual. Check your monitor’s weight without its stand.
Set the tension once for your screen at installation and it holds. The cylinder is sealed and not user-serviceable, which is why the warranty matters — every arm we supply carries the 3-year LUMI India warranty through us as authorised distributor.
Yes, and it is the mechanism to use. On a desk that changes height the screen gets re-set several times a day; a gas spring lets that happen with one hand, whereas a stiff mechanical spring quickly becomes an annoyance people stop bothering with.
