Adjustable, articulating — the same arm, two words

LUMI calls these articulating monitor arms. Almost everybody searching for one types adjustable. They mean the same thing: a multi-joint arm that lets the screen be moved after it is mounted, rather than a bracket that fixes it in one position.

What you are buying is range of movement. A basic arm gives you height and tilt. A full articulating arm adds extension on the joints, swivel left and right, and screen rotation to portrait — five adjustments, all without tools. That matters most on desks that are shared, reconfigured, used standing and seated, or where the screen has to be turned to show someone else.

It also matters for ergonomics compliance. Where a workplace assessment specifies that screen height and distance must be adjustable per user, an articulating arm is the component that satisfies it — and it is far cheaper to specify at fit-out than to retrofit desk by desk.

  • Height, extension, tilt, swivel and ±180° rotation
  • Tool-free adjustment — set it, reset it, no allen key
  • Quick-release VESA plates on the deluxe models
  • Ideal for hot-desking and shared workstations
  • Clamp and grommet fixings both supplied
  • Bulk pricing and installation for office fit-outs

The five adjustments

What “full motion” actually means

Height

The screen rises and falls on the post or through the spring mechanism, so the top of the panel can be set at eye level for whoever is sitting there.

Extension

The joints fold and unfold to bring the screen closer or push it back — up to 380 mm of reach on the LDT55-C012. This is what makes a shallow desk workable.

Tilt

The screen angles up or down at the VESA head. The LDT55-C012 gives ±70°, wide enough to angle a screen down towards a standing user.

Swivel

The screen turns left and right on the arm — ±90° on our models. This is how you turn a screen towards a colleague without moving the desk.

Rotation to portrait

±180° rotation at the VESA plate turns the screen from landscape to portrait for code, documents and long-form reading.

Quick release

On the deluxe models, a 360° rotary quick-release plate lets the screen be lifted off the arm entirely — useful for maintenance, moves and secure storage.

Questions

Adjustable monitor arms — FAQs

An arm that lets you change the screen’s height, distance, angle and orientation after it is mounted — rather than a fixed bracket that holds it in one place. In practice every arm we supply is adjustable; the difference between models is how much they adjust and how easily.

Effectively yes. “Articulating” is the manufacturer’s word for a multi-joint arm; “adjustable” is what buyers actually call it. Both describe an arm that tilts, swivels, rotates and extends. We have used both terms on this page for exactly that reason.

Four, on the models we stock: height (up and down the post), extension (in and out on the joints), tilt (the screen angling up or down) and swivel (turning left and right). Add ±180° screen rotation for portrait and that is five adjustments on one arm.

In our range, the LUMI LDT55-C012 — tilt ±70°, swivel ±90°, rotation ±180°, 380 mm reach and a quick-release 360° rotary VESA plate that lets the screen be lifted off the arm entirely. It is the model we recommend for desks where the screen gets shared or turned.

The joints can be tensioned so the arm is firm enough to stay where it is set without being locked outright. On public-facing or lab installations where the screen must not move at all, a fixed bracket is the better answer and we can supply that instead.

They are the reason hot-desking works. Each person sets their own height and distance in a few seconds without tools, then the next person resets it. Choose gas-spring or a well-tensioned articulating arm — anything stiff enough to need two hands will simply be left where it is.
