What is the difference between the Professional and Project series?

The honest answer is night reach. Matrix publishes up to 30 m of infra-red on the Professional series and up to 50 m on the Project series — so for a long boundary or a dark yard the Project models see further. The Project range also offers motorised varifocal lenses (you can zoom the view without a ladder), while the Professional range is fixed-lens only and comes in a more compact body. Professional suits most indoor and short-perimeter work; Project is for the bigger, darker outdoor runs.

What do CWP and CWS mean at the end of the model number?

That last letter is the one people miss, and it changes what you get. Matrix defines P as Premium and S as Standard: the Premium (CWP) models add two-way audio and digital input/output, the Standard (CWS) models do not. So if you want to speak through the camera, or wire it to an alarm or a siren, you need a CWP. If you only ever want to watch and record, a CWS does the job for less. It is worth checking before you order — the part numbers differ by one letter.
